“The most important position in a democracy is not the office of the President; it is the citizen.”

President Barak Obama

In a few days, Trump, a man who has the solid endorsement of the KKK, who’s bigotry has struck fear into the hearts of all minorities, who has mocked the disabled, demeaned and boasted about sexually assaulting women, attacked the free press, ridiculed McCain for being a prisoner of war, refused financial transparency, disregarded the viability of a federal judge because of his ethnicity, called Mexicans rapists, dismissed the whole of who the heroic John Lewis is as “sad”, yet befriended Putin, believing him before believing the US Intelligence Chiefs, filed five bankruptcies leaving thousands of honest workers, suppliers and contractors holding the bag, threatened legal action against journalists if they criticized him, prompted China to threaten the United States with “large scale war” in response to Trump’s/Ellison’s new China policy, referred to his opponent by leading the hateful witch hunt chant, “Lock her up”, and upon taking the oath will immediately be in violation of the Constitution for refusing to divest his business interests – will be sworn in as the 45th President of the United States, the most powerful position in the world.

If that doesn’t cause you grave concern, then you aren’t paying attention!

Anyone who has even one iota of awareness of human behavior, knows he is a classic narcissist in the extreme.

As described by the Mayo Clinic, narcissism is “a mental disorder in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance. They come across as conceited, boastful or pretentious and often monopolize conversations. They may belittle or look down on people they perceive as inferior and they have trouble handling anything that may be perceived as criticism. They feel a sense of entitlement – and when they don’t receive special treatment, they become impatient or angry. They insist on having ‘the best’ of everything – for instance, the best car, athletic club or medical care. They have little regard for others.”. The Mayo Clinic

Like Trump, Adolf Hitler had the same mental disorder and exhibited similar megalomania behaviors, which is why Trump is so often compared to Hitler. And we know how that one turned out.

Although he lost the popular vote by almost 3 million people and was undoubtedly supported by Russia to help him win the election, he is still going to be the President. Like John Lewis, the very core of my being is repulsed by that thought, and I also will boycott the Inauguration.

However, in the unlikely event it can be proven that he conspired with the Russians to help him become President of the most powerful country in the world (a narcissist’s wet dream), then based on the rules of the game, he WILL be President and that is the reality.

And there’s nothing like a good dose of reality to wake one up. . . all of us . . . those who voted for him, or for those who didn’t vote for him or didn’t vote at all for whatever reason you deemed to be more important. The reality is that Trump has a mental disorder that can be very dangerous when exhibited by someone in a position of power. Narcissists do not make rational choices.

They do not look for win/win solutions and they do not care for the well-being of others. They are only out for themselves and their own profit and gain and they will do anything to get it. That’s the reality folks and that’s what we get to deal with starting on January 20th.

I believe America temporarily lost her soul and her mind. But we have survived such lapses before, regained our sanity and come back even stronger. We are all human. We all make mistakes and we are all learning. There is not one amongst us who has not lost contact with our moral center and made choices we later regretted.

Although there will always be some who will never see through him and will follow him like lemmings to the end, I have hope. I believe the very nature of America will not tolerate a tyrannical leader to roam aimlessly at his will for very long.

When the dust settles and people begin to see more clearly, the conscious, aware people among us will realize the overwhelming negative cumulative effect Trump’s attacks, threats and serial disrespect and disregard for the truth and facts have on our American freedoms.

Yes, he will be the President. But complaining and bemoaning the reality does nothing. We must DO SOMETHING to keep him and his cohorts from destroying the moral fiber of our country. We must start TAKING ACTION!!

Keeping in mind, one of the first things an authoritarian government and dictatorship does is to distort the truth by harassing, intimidating and threatening legal action against journalists (i.e. Russia), I ask of you . . . regardless of whom it involves . . . or whether you voted for him or not, I ask this one thing of you . . .

Please guard the basic tenants of democracy and make sure our fundamental freedoms are preserved. The best way I know to do that is to continuously seek the TRUTH and make sure that all our actions and reactions are based in FACTS!

  • We must hold ourselves accountable to the truth – our internal truth and moral compass we know to be true.
  • We must all hold each other accountable to speak the truth supported by undeniable facts in person and on Facebook (no matter how juicy!)
  • We must refuse to tolerate or excuse or listen to lies by Trump or any politician – Lies are lies. Any distortion of the truth is a lie. “Spinning” the facts to fit your own agenda is a lie.

For example, on mocking the disabled reporter, Trump said: “I merely mimicked what I thought would be a flustered reporter trying to get out of a statement he made long ago. If Mr. Kovaleski is handicapped, I would not know because I do not know what he looks like.” Yet, Kovaleski had covered Trump extensively while working for the Daily News from 1987 to 1993 and had interviewed and talked to the business magnate numerous times during that period. (Other examples of Trump and his surrogates “spinning” lies are far too numerous to list here.)

  • We must refuse to listen to any form of Fake News.
  • We must refuse to spread conspiracies as truth.
  • We must reject ALL exaggerations and demand the President of the Free World speak the TRUTH. His statement that “Thousands of Moslems were dancing in the streets and on rooftops after 9/11”, was an attempt to caste hatred towards all Moslems with a gross misrepresentation of the truth. It’s a flat out LIE!
  • We must demand the news media constantly dig for the truth in all interviews and articles written, regardless of Trump’s threats to hurt them. And support them when he overpowers them into silence.
  • We must support journalists to only report the truth backed by FACTS.

Then and only then do we stand a chance of preserving our democratic freedoms. When we start to believe distorted facts then we turn our power over to the one doing the distorting.

What is it about the TRUTH that Trump is so afraid of? And I ask you . . . do you resist when I ask you to stand up to any lies – his or anyone else’s?

Simply take action by contacting your government leaders, write to the White House, the reporters, the News stations and hold them accountable. Don’t just think it, DO IT!!!!

Get their contact information right now, write it down and act upon it.

As citizens, let’s never forget that the President works for US, not the other way around. WE must SPEAK TRUTH TO POWER. Therein lies our only hope because only the TRUTH WILL SET (AND KEEP) US FREE.

BE A WATCH DOG FOR THE TRUTH – Don’t support the President’s lies or anyone’s lies. Is that asking too much of you, a Citizen???

Here’s what I am doing:

  • All of the above suggestions
  • Participating with my daughter in the Woman’s March in Washington DC – and I hope you are marching, too – somewhere. Stand up and be counted. (I don’t care if it’s raining or snowing.) Don’t just sit at home and complain. That’s how we got into this mess in the first place.
  • Joined a woman’s group in my home town to stand for justice, human rights and the environment.
  • Keeping people aware of the accountability each of us holds in our role as Citizen and what it requires.
  • Created a workshop on how to communicate specifically with someone who doesn’t think like you do politically
  • Making donations to causes I support like Planned Parenthood.

Please respond and let me know what YOU are doing to assure the continuation of our democracy and personal freedoms.

But for God’s sake, don’t just do nothing!!!

Don’t give up. Don’t give in. Stand up. Speak up.

John Lewis

In keeping with my pledge for honesty, since the writing of this, John Lewis (who could not be more of the complete opposite of Trump regarding character), was not honest when he said this was the first Inauguration he has ever missed. He also chose not to attend George Bush’s in 2001, although he added that Bush was now a friend of his.
